Coasting - You're Never Going Back

Αυτό εδώ είναι από την περασμένη χρονιά, αλλά άρχισα να το λιώνω τις τελευταίες μέρες στην καθ'οδόν playlist μου. Οι Coasting απλά είναι μια κιθάρα (Madison Farmer) και ένα drumset (Fiona Campell). Moυ θυμίζουν σε σημεία και κυρίως φωνητικά τους Air Waves από το Brooklyn. Με αυτό το μινιμαλιστικό set up προσπαθούν να κάνουν όσο περισσότερη φασαρία μπορούν και τα καταφέρνουν περίφημα. Με surf αύρα, post punk στιγμές και ωραιότατα ριφάκια ξεσηκώνουν τον ακροατή μέσα σε 33 λεπτά. Φυσικά με μια διαφορετική προσέγγιση θα μπορούσαν αντί για ντεμπούτο να μας πασάρουν ένα ωραιότατο, περισσότερο προσεγμένο και πιο ουσιαστικό EP, αλλά όχι ότι με χάλασε το "You're Never Going Back", καθόλου.

Porcelain Raft - Strange Weekend

Και ενώ η πλειοψηφία του μουσικοιντερνετικού κόσμου ασχολείται με το πόνημα της Lana del Rey, και πολλές φορές δυστυχώς με την ίδια overhyped περσόνα, εγώ προτιμώ αυτήν την στιγμή να ασχοληθώ με τον Porcelain Raft ή κατά κόσμον Ιταλό Μauro Remiddi. Aυτός κυκλοφορεί το ντεμπούτο του "Strange Weekend", βάζει όλο του το ταλέντο, αστείρευτο συναίσθημα και τις πολύπλευρες επιρροές του από Λονδίνο, Brooklyn, Ιταλία και συναρμολογεί έναν πανέμορφο, ταξιδιάρικο, γοητευτικά θολό dream pop δίσκο που αγγίζει όλες τις ευαίσθητες, μουσικές χορδές και μας ζεσταίνει στις πανευρωπαϊκά τσουχτέρες,  παγωμένες μέρες. Καθόλου τυχαίο που συνοδεύει τους M83 στο επερχόμενό τους tour. Η μουσική της Lana ας περιμένει...

The Big Pink - Future This

Kακά τα ψέματα "A Brief History of Love" δεν είναι. Ούτε τις κομματάρες του περιέχει. Αλλά δεν ξέρω, μέχρι στιγμής είναι ότι καλύτερο άκουσα το 2012. Ή πλέον δεν βγαίνουν δίσκοι του γούστου μου, ή έχω μείνει εγώ λίγο πίσω, η γενικά βιώνει και η μουσική βιομηχανία περισσότερο την κρίση. Πάει και το megaupload...
Πάλι πίσω στο θέμα μας. Το "Future Τhis" έχω την αίσθηση ότι ακούγεται περισσότερο ηλεκτρονικό, από το σαφέστατα πιο κιθαριστικό πρόγονό του. Σχεδόν electropop θα μπορούσε κανείς να χαρακτηρίσει το ηχητικό αποτέλεσμα. Όπως και να έχει, ακούγεται όμορφα, είναι βρετανικό, σε φτιάχνει την διάθεση και μου άνοιξε την όρεξη να βγω από την μουσική χειμερία μου νάρκη, αρκεί να βρω και ανταπόκριση από την μουσική εκεί έξω...
Για πιο σκοτεινές, shoegaze καταστάσεις τσεκάρετε τα περσινά "Cults" των Little Girls και "Joy LP" των Souvenir Driver. Εξαιρετικά και τα δύο.

French Films - Imaginary Future

"Dreaming, cold & dark winter, being alive"..σύμφωνα με τους French Films αυτές είναι επιρροές που καθορίζουν την μουσική τους. Δεν είναι Γάλλοι, αλλά Φινλανδοί, και στα αυτιά μου ακούγονται σαν μια ευχάριστη μίξη από τους Motorama και Drums. Πήραν το post-punk από τους πρώτους, και την αναβίωση του surf rock από τους δεύτερους, τα ανακάτεψαν όμορφα και μας πρόσφεραν το πολύ καλό ντεμπούτο τους "Ιmaginary Future".

Florence + the Machine - Ceremonials

To ντεμπούτο της έχει μια σταθερή θέση στα playlist μου. Δυστυχώς δεν μπόρεσα μέχρι αυτήν την στιγμή να εντρυφήσω στο νέο πόνημα της Florence και της παρέας της. Ήτανε περίεργος ο Νοέμβριος. Καθώς όμως συνεχίζω να ακούω το "Ceremonials", διακρίνω πόσο πετυχημένη είναι η δισκογραφική συνέχεια της Βρετανίδας. Απλά έτσι πρέπει να γράφεται η σύγχρονη ποπ. Μελωδική, μεγαλειώδης, συναισθηματική. Nα μπορεί να ακουστεί παντού και πάντα και να μην χαλάει κανέναν. Σίγουρα, σε αντίθεση με το "Lungs" είναι ένας μεγάλος δίσκος σε μήκος, που ποτέ όμως δεν σου δίνει περιθώρια να βαρεθείς τα απανωτά κομψοτεχνήματα και τις όμορφες ενορχηστρώσεις που σου προσφέρει. Και πάνω απ'όλα η φωνή, κάθε κομμάτι μέσα στον δίσκο την αναδεικνύει, παρόλο που δεν το έχει και ιδιαίτερη ανάγκη. Έτσι η μουσική της Florence με όλα τα συστατική της απογειώνεται, μαζί με την χαρακτηριστική φωνή της που βρίσκεται ήδη πολύ ψηλά.

The Black Keys - El Camino

Μετά τις λίστες καιρός να ασχοληθούμε με δίσκους που απουσιάζουν από αυτές. Ένας τέτοιος δίσκος είναι και ο "El Camino", που εξαιτίας των κανονισμών δεν κατάφερε να ταρακουνήσει την 20άδα με την παρουσία του. Ναι, στον 8ο δίσκο οι Black Keys ανεβάζουν στροφές, βάζουν πλέον την 6η ταχύτητα και προσφέρουν απλόχερη μουσική ευφορία με τα παθιασμένα, παλιομοδίτικα rock blues κομψοτεχνήματά τους. Δύσκολα θα περίμενα μετά το "Brother" ξανά έναν ανάλογο δίσκο, αλλά το δίδυμο από το Ohio τα κατάφερε και επιπλέον μας χάρισε έτσι απλά και το βιντεοκλίπ της χρονιάς...μινιμαλισμός, ρυθμός, ταλέντο και διάθεση στην πλέον τελειοποιημένη τους μορφή και αρμονική συνύπαρξη.

H βρετανική indie rock σκηνή ζει, και ένας από τους βασικούς λόγους είναι και αυτοί οι Λονδρέζοι. Όχι δηλαδή πως όλα τους τα κομμάτια είναι αυστηρά "βρετανικά", αλλά οι εναλλαγές μεταξύ των γρήγορων κιθαριστικών tracks και των απαλών, μελωδικών τους τραγουδιών στα όρια της μπαλάντας δημιουργούν ένα γοητευτικό μουσικό σύνολο, πολλά συναισθηματικά ανεβοκατεβάσματα και ένα από τα καλύτερα ντεμπούτα φέτος. Καλές και οι φετινές δουλειές των Those Darlins και Vivian Girls, αλλά αυτές εδώ μένουν αξεπέραστες. Ειδικά το φετινό τους άλμπουμ έδειξε ξεκάθαρα την εξέλιξη του ήχου τους, και κάθε φορά που ανατρέχω σε προηγούμενες δουλειές τους αυτό δεν μένει απαρατήρητο. Οι garage κιθάρες έγιναν ένα κλικ πιο γλυκές, πιο μαλακές, και άφησαν χώρο στην μελωδία. Tα 2λεπτα μουσικά σφηνάκια υποχώρησαν, και όμορφα, "εμπλουτισμένα" κομμάτια, στα όρια του power pop και rock, έσκασαν μύτη και δεν έφυγαν ποτέ ξανά. (+)

Είναι ο ένας από τους δύο δίσκους που έδωσαν ένα ξεχωριστό, όμορφο μουσικό στίγμα κατά τη διάρκεια των καλοκαιρινών μου μηνών. Για μένα το φετινό άλμπουμ, αντίστοιχο με το περσινό "Crazy for You" από τους Best Coast, που επηρέασε θετικά την ψυχολογία μου και με κάνει και τώρα που το ακούω και γράφω αυτές τις γραμμές να χαμογελώ... Πανέμορφη, ηλιόλουστη, διασκεδαστική, αφελής αλλά και προσεγμένη pop. (+)

Στην φασαρία και τον "εφηβικό" αυθορμητισμό προστέθηκαν η γοητευτική μελωδία και η ωριμότητα. Η παραγωγή προσεγμένη, τα κομμάτια ολοκληρωμένα και οι ίδιοι μπορούν πλέον να περηφανεύονται ότι έκαναν ένα βήμα παραπάνω στην νεαρή δισκογραφική τους ηλικία. (+)
